With big-box stores, online services, and e-readers, one would think independent bookstores across the country are now on the ropes. In Cleveland, OH however, many independent bookstores are thriving, with shelves stocked deep with treasures. Some stores are known for filling a niche, like stocking zines or obscure fantasy titles, while others are more popular as venues for book signings, workshops, and other fun events.
For bookworms, nothing compares to the feeling you get when browsing through a terrific selection of unique titles. Without further ado, here are some of our favorite independent booksellers in the Cleveland area:
Fireside Book Shop

Fireside Book Shop has been a destination or book lovers since 1963. Located in downtown Chagrin Falls, the bookstore is housed in a former auto supply store located right below an apartment space.
In addition to its wide selection of titles across different genres, Fireside also organizes author readings and signings, book launches, discussions, and other events. The store also has a trade-in program which exchanges books in good condition for credit which you can spend on existing books and merchandise.

Visible Voice Books is a sanctuary for creative thinkers, curious readers, and anyone looking to add yet another title to their “to-read” pile. Located in the heart of Tremont, the locally-owned bookstore offers works made by up-and-coming writers and acclaimed authors, literary gifts, unique merchandise, and more.
The space also doubles as a café which serves a variety of craft beer, seasonal wines, locally made pastries, and special teas and coffee.

Established in 1961, Zubal Books is a well-known source for libraries, collectors, and readers searching for rare titles and important books on different subjects in all fields. Majority of the store’s collection of rarities consists of previously owned titles from researchers, professors, and technical libraries.
Zubal Books offers over 150,000 titles on their website, while there are more than 750,000 books currently being cataloged.
