Best Things to Do In and Around Cleveland This Fall

Autumn Park Bench

There’s nothing like fall in Cleveland with its fall colors and fun festivities. If you’re looking for things to do in and around Cleveland this season, check out these fall activities.

Hiking and biking at Rocky River Reservation and Bedford Reservation

Northeast Ohio is arguably one of the best autumn locations in the United States for its fall colors. There are many places to hike, bike, or drive to see Red Maple, Cottonwood, and Sycamore trees in all their autumn glory.

Popular hiking spots include Rocky River Reservation, which is known for stunning sandstone and shale ledges surrounded by mature trees. Highlights include Berea Falls Scenic Overlook and Fort Hill, which command scenic views of autumn foliage.

Another spot worth visiting is Bedford Reservation. Highlights include Tinker’s Creek Gorge Scenic Overlook and the Great Falls area surrounding Tinker’s Creek. Take in the views and snap a few photos as keepsakes.

Stroll through Holden Forests & Gardens Arboretum

Another great stop for autumn would be Holden Arboretum, where you can appreciate the fall colors. If you haven’t already been, the arboretum is known for its exquisite gardens and serene trails. Iconic stops such as the Murch Canopy Walk and Kalberer Emergent Tower offer stunning views of autumn foliage and the nearby forests. Hike through the Woodland and Old Valley trails to reconnect with nature and enjoy the solitude.

Visit the petting zoo at Stearns Homestead

Enjoy some family-friendly fun at Stearns Homestead in Parma, where you can visit the ducks, goats, horses, and ponies that call this wonderful place home. You can feed the farm animals and pose for a few Instagram photos. You can also go on a hayride and perform light tasks around the farm.

Stearns Homestead is located in Parma, about six to 10 miles from Cleveland. It’s a bit of a drive but well-worth the trip. If you’re looking for a change in scenery during the fall season, this educational farm is a great stop for the whole family.

Tour the Ohio State Reformatory

If you’re looking for a good fright, sign up for Escape From Blood Prison, a seasonal escape room at Ohio State Reformatory. This escape room has real actors and special effects to scare the wits out of participants at every turn. But perhaps more notable is the site of the game – the reformatory is best known as the filming location for The Shawshank Redemption and is rumored to be haunted by the ghosts of its former prisoners. No matter what you believe, the reformatory is a historic site worth visiting. The reformatory’s design borrows architectural elements from several castles, most notably Château de Chambord in France. This is apparent in the turrets and spires that hark back to the 16th century and the Italian Renaissance.
