Staying home for fall? Cozy up your living space with these fall decorating ideas.
- Make a memorable entrance
There’s no better place to start than the front gate and main entry of your home. Create those fall vibes by setting down some carved pumpkins and lanterns on the front porch. You can even set up a faux scarecrow to set the mood for Halloween. Other decorative details, like dried pampas, autumn wreaths, and colorful flowers will also do the trick. If you’re expecting company for the fall season, bring out some chairs, a long bench, or a table with fall-themed accessories for guests.
- Decorate with copper
If you feel like decorating for fall but don’t want to do anything too kitschy, consider incorporating copper surfaces into your home decor. This reddish-brown metal is perfect for fall with its warm coloring and shiny surface. A few copper lanterns or lamps can add glow to the living room while copper furniture, such as a stool or end table, can give your interiors a rustic feel. A copper pail can be used to hold fresh-cut flowers while copper pendant lights can add a blaze of color to the kitchen. The possibilities are endless with this beautiful metal – play around with a few copper accessories and see what you come up with.
- Light up the room
Fall is best spent sitting by a roaring fire on a cold day. If you have a fireplace, now’s a great time to use it. Light it in the evenings and watch those flames turn your living room into an autumn wonderland. You can also decorate your fireplace for fall with some pumpkins and autumn wreaths. Better yet, bring in a stuffed chair, a plush carpet, and a few throw pillows for cozying up in front of the fire.
- Decorate with soft fabrics
There are many ways to spruce up your space with fabric. Nothing says fall quite like red plaid tablecloth. Bring in a few blanket throws for the sofa or rocking chair – think Pendleton cotton or brushed herringbone throws with tassels. You can also use some fall-themed curtains and drapes. You can go sheer polyester, rich damask, or lightweight cotton in all kinds of fall colors.
Best of all, you don’t even need to buy new tablecloths or throws. Ransack your wardrobe for a plaid blanket or a red scarf as stand-ins for more traditional table runners or throws.
If you don’t have a fireplace, consider lighting a few candles for ambience. You can place some soy candles inside decorative glass holders and lanterns for added effect. You can also light some scented candles for the fall vibe – think pumpkin spice or cinnamon-scented candles for that holiday vibe. If you have reservations about lighting candles inside the home, you can opt for LED candles or smokeless candles for a safer fall season.
For artificial lighting, choose fairy lights and LED bulbs that emit warm white or orange-yellow light, which allow for softer lighting that sets the mood for fall.
