The 5 Best Beaches in Northeast Ohio for Family Beach Days

Northeast Ohio’s stunning beaches offer the perfect setting for a fun-filled day in the sun with the family. Whether you’re looking for a quick trip close to downtown or a peaceful getaway by the water, these beaches offer something for everyone.

  1. Huntington Beach

Part of the Huntington Reservation, Huntington Beach is one of the most popular beach destinations in Northeast Ohio. Pristine and scenic, its shores allow guests to relax, picnic, or sunbathe. The beach is perfect for kayaking, and a 3-mile nature trail awaits adventurers looking for a more challenging activity at the nearby reservation. The trail passes through multiple habitats from serene creeks and meadows to lush forests. What’s more, the Rocky River Nature Center and Lake Erie Nature Center offer educational programs ranging from pint glass painting to birdwatching.

  2. Edgewater Beach

Only 8 minutes from downtown Cleveland, Edgewater Beach is a getaway that isn’t too far from home. This sprawling beach area has a pavilion, food trucks, and a venue for live entertainment. It’s also known for its weekly summer event, Edgewater Live, every Thursday night.

If you’re looking for a great view of Lake Erie, this is the place to go. Once you’re here, you can enjoy a day of kayaking on the water or start a pick-up beach volleyball game. A large portion of the lake allows swimming access. You can even bring your dog here as the westernmost corner is dog-friendly.

  3. Euclid Beach Park

Still close to Cleveland but less crowded than Edgewater Beach is Euclid Beach Park, a semi-hidden gem only 16 minutes from downtown.

Formerly home to the popular Euclid Beach Amusement Park, this peaceful beach area includes an observation deck, pavilion, and multiple shaded picnic spots. Remnants of the amusement park can be seen in the shuffleboard corner and parts of the beachside fountain.

  4. Rocky River Park Beach

Another beach with a stunning view of Lake Erie is Rocky River Park, roughly a 20-minute car ride from downtown Cleveland. Although swimming isn’t allowed, guests can still enjoy the fresh air and pristine shores of this popular getaway. Children can take advantage of the kids’ playground and picnic areas, while parents can cook up a hearty meal on the grill. Plus, Wagar Beach is just a few minutes away and offers swimming access.

  5. Lakeview Park

From its calm waters to its vibrant rose garden, Lakeview Park is a special spot that’s roughly 40 minutes away from downtown Cleveland – perfect for a day trip. In the summer, 2,500 roses come to full bloom, creating a spectacular sight that truly showcases the beauty of Northeast Ohio. Take some time to stop and enjoy the flowers, then dive into a plethora of outdoor activities, such as swimming, beach volleyball, and kayaking.
