You’re never going to run out of things to do in Solon. Here, in no particular order, are some of many people’s favorite things to do in the city:

Head to the Golf Course

Golfing enthusiasts will truly enjoy teeing off at the many golf courses found in Solon. There’s the Grantwood Golf Club with its 18-hole golf course that’s been named one of the “Top Five Courses You Can Play in Cleveland under $50” by Golf Magazine.

Northwest of Grantwood is the Hawthorne Valley Country Club. It features an 18-hole golf course designed by Donald Ross as well as the full complement of golf facilities such as a driving range and putting green.

Situated on 600 acres just across the Grantwood Golf Club to the south is Signature of Solon Country Club. It features a Craig Schreiner-designed par 72 course with multiple tees.

Relax in a Park

Whether you’re in the mood for a leisurely stroll and some quiet time under the trees or you want to play ball, Solon has a number of parks where you can play, relax, and simply enjoy nature.

The Solon Community Park located at 6679 SOM Center Road is the perfect place for those who enjoy wide open spaces. The park has 10 baseball fields, two separate playground areas, sand volleyball courts, eight lighted and four unlit outdoor tennis courts, and a large pavilion available for Solon residents to reserve for almost any special occasion or event.

Timberlake Park is a natural park with an expansive, almost four-acre fishing lake that’s stocked with bass, bluegill, catfish, and sunfish. This off-the-beaten-path park is accessible through Root Road, and also features two pavilions and several outdoor grills.

Explore Recreational Programs

The Solon Recreation Department offers various recreational activities for all ages, starting from 6 months and above. Offerings include pre-school activities, aquatics programs, birthday party packages for kids, sports camps, skating lessons, fitness orientation classes, and more. Freeway Lanes is a popular bowling and recreation spot in Solon located along Bainbridge Road, providing not just modern bowling lanes but also Laser Tag, Laser Maze, and Bocce Ball. The facility also has catering services, private party rooms, and a bar with an outdoor patio and deck.

Shop and Dine

Solon has plenty of shopping and dining options that will satisfy anyone’s impulse to shop or to enjoy a gourmet meal. The area bounded by US Route 422 and intersected by SOM Center Road is a well-known shopping and dining district, with several major shopping centers located here.

Solon Square Shopping Center is an established community mall with ample parking and a good mix of tenants and services, while the newer Solon Village just across the corner of Aurora Road contains several retail centers anchored by a Market District Giant Eagle and OfficeMax.

Towards the north via SOM Center Road, one will pass the Solon Mall Shopping Center, and to the left on Route 422, one will find Uptown Solon, another retail center with stores offering a variety of goods ranging from specialty foods to home furnishings.

Check Out Museums and Car Shows

Learn more about Solon’s past or view an assortment of fine cars ranging from vintage cruisers to custom builds at the Solon Historical Society. Located in the former site of the Pioneer Memorial Church on Bainbridge Road, it’s just south of the Solon Mall Shopping Center.

The Museum offers information on the history of Solon and also sponsors various programs and events held throughout the year.

Every Tuesday, Rock-N-Roll Capital Street Machines holds a car show with a specific theme, ranging from Corvettes to their Cruiser of the Year vehicles.
