Winter hiking

Soak in breathtaking views of Cleveland’s tranquil winter landscape by taking the family on a winter hiking adventure!

You can enjoy a winter hike at the network of trails in Cleveland Metroparks, Cuyahoga Valley National Park, Lake Metroparks, and Lorain County Metro Parks. Some of these parks offer special winter programs as well including snowshoeing, interpretative winter hikes, and cross-country skiing lessons.

Ice skating

Many outdoor ice skating rinks open up in Cleveland every winter. If you want to take the family out for a fun day of ice skating, head to some of these popular ice skating rinks:

  • Crocker Park Ice Skating Rink – Presented by the Cleveland Monsters, Crocker Park Ice Skating Rink is located in Union Square, adjacent to Regal Cinemas. The rink will be open through February 20, 2023.

  • Cleveland Foundation Skating Rink – Cleveland’s premier ice rink will be open until February 21, 2023. Tickets are priced at $12 per person, including skate rental.

  • The Rink at Wade Oval – Cool down with an ice skating session after visiting the museums in University Circle. The Rink at Wade Oval will be open until February 26, 2023. Tickets cost $2 each and an additional $3 for skate rentals.

Tobogganing

Tobogganing is a beloved northeast Ohio winter pastime at The Chalet in Mill Stream Run Reservation from Cleveland Metroparks. You and your family can enjoy an exhilarating experience by zipping down the twin 700-foot ice chutes located at the reservation’s Chalet Recreation Area. The toboggan chutes are usually open on the weekend after Thanksgiving all the way through early March.

Attend a winter festival

There are several winter festivals and events in Cleveland scheduled just outside the holiday season:

Just outside of Cleveland, you can check out The Medina Ice Festival, Northeast Ohio’s largest ice festival and one of the most-anticipated yearly events in Ohio. Scheduled from February 17 to 20, 2023, the annual event features over 120 ice sculptures, speed carving contests, and other fun attractions.

Stay warm and cozy indoors

You don’t have to be outdoors to enjoy a fun day with your family in Cleveland! There’s a wide variety of terrific indoor activities and destinations as well like the Cleveland Museum of Art and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
