How to keep the Christmas spirit despite the pandemic

The holiday season is one of the most anticipated times of the year, but because of the coronavirus pandemic, we may have to change how we celebrate Christmas. Fortunately for us, humans are incredibly resourceful. There are multiple ways to keep the Christmas spirit well and alive as we shelter in place to keep all of our loved ones safe.

  1. Send Christmas ecards

Spread the holiday cheer to your family and friends by sending Christmas ecards. Hallmark has a great selection you can choose from, but if you want to flex your creative muscles, you can make your own Christmas ecards on Canva, which has tons of free templates and resources. You can make a different design and include a touching note for each person on your list.

  2. Bring out the Christmas decorations

If you are sheltering in place with family or friends who can’t go home for the holidays, you can keep the Christmas spirit alive by decking your home with Christmas decorations. Turn the activity into a bonding moment where everyone can share their favorite memories of Christmas. Afterwards, cap it off with mugs of hot chocolate.

  3. Shop online for gifts and have them shipped instead

A hassle-free way to find gifts for all of your loved ones is to shop online. You won’t have to deal with the Christmas crowd and the blistering cold outside. Furthermore, you can simply check another online shop if you can’t find what you’re looking for.

Some of these online shops offer free shipping. Take advantage of this perk and have your gifts shipped to your loved ones instead. If this isn’t an option, remember to maintain your distance when dropping off presents.

  4. Organize a holiday movie night

Are movie nights something of a tradition for you and your loved ones? You can still do this even while sheltering in place. Set the date and time and make sure everyone has Teleparty (formerly known as Netflix Party) installed on their browsers. Then, have someone host a video call on Zoom or Google Meets so you can all watch your favorite holiday movies and TV shows together.

  5. Create an Advent calendar

Having an Advent calendar is a great way to spice up every single day leading up to Christmas. Each activity doesn’t have to be elaborate. It can be as simple as wearing an ugly Christmas sweater, having a movie night, or setting aside from time to play board games. These Christmas Advent calendars might give you more ideas.
