Boasting over 870 miles of shoreline, Lake Erie is a picturesque destination that offers an array of recreational activities for visitors of all ages.
If you’re looking forward to spending time outdoors safely, a visit to Lake Erie might be just the thing you need. Here are some things you can do while you’re there:
Go on a wine tasting trip
Explore Ohio’s picturesque wine country by booking a trip on The Lodge at Geneva-on-the-Lake’s Ohio Wine Shuttle! The shuttle ride takes visitors on a tour of local wineries nestled throughout Northeast Ohio’s famed wine regions.
Both their Saturday and Sunday Signature Immersion Tours will stop at three set top-rated vineyards and wineries, while the Deluxe Wine Shuttle features more options for guests who want to visit specific wineries.

The grounds surrounding Marblehead Lighthouse are perfect if you want to enjoy a nice picnic amidst stunning surroundings.
Enjoy a relaxing staycation
De-stress, rejuvenate your senses, and take in panoramic views of the lake by booking an accommodation at one of the many lakeside resorts along the shores of Lake Erie. Many of the resorts on the lake feature a wide selection of amenities including access to hiking and biking trails, fishing docks, beachfront bars, farm-to-table restaurants, and expansive lakefront patios where you can relax and enjoy the views.
Some excellent Lake Erie resorts you can check out include:
- Hotel Breakers at Cedar Point
- Hotel Lakeside
- Lakehouse Inn
- Maumee Bay Lodge
- The Lodge at Geneva-on-the-Lake
Remember to visit each hotel’s website for reservations, COVID-19 guidelines and safety precautions, and more information.
Go on a scenic hike at Lake Erie Bluffs
Trek through vast open meadows, enchanting forests, and hemlock ravines while taking in picture-perfect views of the Lake Erie shoreline by hiking at Lake Erie Bluffs.
Most of the trails in the area are gravel-surfaced, although some are hard-surfaced which makes them ideal for strollers. Some designated trails are also open for bikers and equestrians.

Go kayaking or stand-up paddleboarding
Enjoy a relaxing afternoon right on Lake Erie’s waters by renting a kayak or stand-up paddleboard. Paddle away at your own pace or join a guided tour to see some majestic sights up close like Cleveland’s historic harbor lights, the enchanting cliffs along the Lakewood shoreline, and the many illuminated bridges crossing Cuyahoga River.
Unfortunately, many of the popular kayak/stand-up paddleboard rental shops like 41 North and Best Coast Watersports are currently closed for the season, but stay tuned for their reopening in May 2021!
