Newly opened restaurants to try in Cleveland, OH this 2021

Nothing beats home cooking. But when you’re too busy to cook or when your taste buds crave something new, Cleveland boasts a wide range of restaurants to choose from.

In this piece, discover six new dining establishments that should be on your to-try list:

17 River Grille

17 River Street, Chagrin Falls, OH

Those craving good, old-fashioned American flavors are sure to love 17 River Grille which was opened by Chagrin Falls native Rick Doody last August. The restaurant offers mouthwatering fare, including lobster bisque, cedar plank roasted salmon, and a 16-ounce rib-eye steak called “The Duke.” Fellow local Tim Davin crafted the cocktail menu, which features drinks like Hunters Hollow, an homage to one of the city’s well-remembered restaurants. But scrumptious food isn’t the only ace up 17 River Grille’s sleeves, as the restaurant also boasts dining areas that overlooks the iconic Chagrin River falls.

Goma

2247 Professor Avenue C, Cleveland, OH

Goma isn’t Chef Dante Boccuzzi’s first foray into Japanese-fusion cuisine, as he also runs Ginko, an upscale sushi joint. But his new restaurant on E. Fourth Street aims to deliver the top-notch Japanese fare he is known for in a fast-casual setting. At Goma, patrons can expect to savor exquisite sushi rolls, tempura, shabu-shabu, and noodles, among other delights. Drink connoisseurs will be glad to know that the restaurant’s basement will also be home to Giappone, a Japanese craft cocktail club.

Amba

1975 Lee Road, Cleveland Heights, OH

Amba, which opened in November, is named after a spicy condiment made from mustard and mango. True to form, Chef Doug Katz’s new restaurant gives diners a bold take on Indian cuisine with dishes like spinach raita, grilled chicken kofta, ground lamb keema, and kale and persimmon salad. It’s an ideal dining spot for people with dietary restrictions, as it also serves vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free fare. To sample a little bit of everything, be sure to try its shared plates menu.

The Last Page

100 Park Avenue, Suite 128, Cleveland, OH

While work on The Last Page started about two years ago, the current pandemic prompted owner Todd Leebow to postpone its opening. But when it finally welcomes diners in mid-February, it promises to deliver a modern American concept, where classic dishes are imbued with global influences. The all-day restaurant has a promising menu, which includes items like salmon belly spread, truffle orecchiette, Spanish chorizo omelet, and applewood smoked bacon. It also offers handcrafted cocktails inspired by the Prohibition era.

The Sleepy Rooster

5210 Chillicothe Road, Chagrin Falls, OH

Looking for some comfort food? The Sleepy Rooster in Chagrin Falls offers soul food that is sure to hit the spot. The brainchild of Craig and Sarah Fitzgerald, this restaurant’s specialties include breakfast on a biscuit, chorizo hash and eggs, country-fried steaks, and avocado toast. The owners are strong supporters of local farmers, so they source ingredients from partners like Harvest Bell Farm and MacKenzie Creamery.

Chatty’s Pizzeria

28611 Lake Road, Bay Village, OH

Foodies eagerly awaited Chef Matt Harlan’s next move after leaving Michael Symon Restaurants, his home for over 20 years. Now they have the answer: Chatty’s Pizzeria in Bay Village, just outside Cleveland. According to Harlan, his new venture is a community-driven and family-friendly joint where diners can enjoy fresh, made-to-order pizzas. Such is the restaurant’s devotion to hand-making pizzas that it even installed an open kitchen, allowing patrons to see their orders being made in real-time.
