Whether you simply want a relaxing time outdoors or are ready for some adventures, here are a few senior-friendly things to do in Chagrin Falls:

  1. Hike the trails

Chagrin Falls is the perfect place for long or short hikes. The town boasts numerous trails and walking paths where you can indulge in the beauty of the surroundings and even go bird or wildlife watching along the way. You can choose from easy, paved trails to more challenging routes, depending on your skill level or preference.

For easy hikes, the top places to go include Chagrin Falls Village Park, Henry Church Rock at the South Chagrin Reservation, and Big Bluestem Trail at Frohring Meadows. If you want a bit more of an exertion, try trails with a moderate rating, such as the Henry Church, Jr. Rock Loop, Bridle Trail Loop at South Chagrin Reservation, or the Shelter House, Bridle, and Hatchet Loop also at South Chagrin Reservation.

  2. Go fishing

Fishing is another popular outdoor activity in Chagrin Falls. The South Chagrin Reservation is home to Shadow Lake, a four-acre lake stocked with various fish species for year round fishing. The picturesque lake also features a picnic area with tables and grills, perfect for a full day out in nature.

Just a few minutes drive from Chagrin Falls is Beartown Lakes Reservation, a frequently visited fishing destination in the Cleveland area. The reservation is home to three lakes that are stocked with steelhead, largemouth, and smallmouth bass. Forests, wetlands, and meadows surround the lakes, making for a peaceful nature getaway.

  3. Start your own garden

Gardening is one of the most convenient ways to spend an active time outdoors. While it takes some hard work, it also gives you the satisfaction of watching your garden grow just the way you want it.

There are numerous shops and nurseries in the village selling plants and gardening or landscaping supplies. Check out Chagrin Pet and Garden, an old fashioned, family owned garden center. If you have no experience in gardening or want to exchange tips and experiences with other enthusiasts, join a local gardening club, such as The Chagrin Valley Herb Society and The Dogwood Valley Garden Club. These clubs are also active in community events. The Chagrin Valley Herb Society maintains public gardens at the Bainbridge Library on Snyder Road, while The Dogwood Valley Garden Club plays an important role in the continuing beautification of Chagrin Falls.

  4. Stroll around Downtown Chagrin Falls

One of the best things about living in Chagrin Falls is the beautiful scenery that makes walking around an uplifting experience. Downtown Chagrin Falls is not only a wonderful place for outdoor shopping, it also has a quaint, rustic design that’s sure to put you in a good mood. Come here for retail therapy or a cup of coffee, or simply to walk up and down the scenic, pedestrian-friendly streets.
